First and foremost I love 5.11 gear and have a wardrobe literally full of the stuff - high quality, durable and awesome tackle. 5.11 are normally amazing!
However, these socks have unfortunately been my worst 5.11 purchase to date. 🫤
I have a size 11.5 US foot, without huge calves or anything ‘extreme’ in my feet or legs, and these socks in Large were WAAAYYY too tight. After wearing them for a day they dug in so much into my calf when I took them off the ridges they scored into my legs were actually painful when touched. I wear compression socks from 2XU and these things were even more compressive than those. Not good! It really felt like these should stop at a size 10 US for Large… (In fact I will check that sizing after I post this review… 🤔)
Secondly, when I got them there was a huge label tagged to them warning me that these socks contained BPA!!! What?! BPA is a hideous chemical and most companies will not manufacture products that contain this hormone-disrupting substance. What are you thinking 5.11??? Yet its in these socks…
Anyhow, I probably should have sent them back there and then but I needed some long black socks for a trip I’m now on. A big regret. They are that bad I think I will throw them out when I get home. A waste. 👎
Not good Valhalla - I would recommend NOT selling these socks, which is a shame as I have many other 5.11 socks which I love. These socks really are a big mistake, for the BPA content alone…

The warning you noticed is a standard legal requirement under California’s Proposition 65 law in the United States. 5.11 is imported into Australia from the United States. This law requires businesses in America to include a warning if a product contains even trace amounts of a listed chemical, such as BPA, even if the levels are far below what federal health agencies consider harmful. While BPA is commonly associated with hard plastics, trace amounts can sometimes be present in synthetic textiles (like polyester and elastane blends) where it is used as a dye-fixing agent during manufacturing. Because these socks contain 75% polyester and 5% elastane, 5.11 the manufacturer includes this warning out of an abundance of caution to remain fully compliant with US distribution laws. Please rest assured that these socks are completely safe to wear and meet all federal safety regulations. The warning is simply a strict right-to-know disclosure required by US law rather than a sign of danger.
In regard to the sizing being tight, I am sorry they are not what you expected. I can understand that would have been frustrating on a trip. I can recommend another sock that we sell, the XTM Merino Heater Socks as a better alternative. They are comfortable, stretchy, 40% Australian Merino and can be worn multiple days in a row.

These are good quality overall, but they compress the calves too tightly and become painful over time. I wear them for 12-hour shifts, and about halfway through the day, I feel the need to take them off. I might have to go one size bigger next time.
