A 2016 adaptation of the classic Boonie hat designed to thrive in the Torrid zone*
The Torrid Boonie hat is a quick drying, compact, comfortable, breathable and adjustable *jungle hat that provides the next level of comfort while working in already challenging environments.
Torrid Boonie is feature rich while keeping weight down and comfort high.
Mesh ring segment follows the entire circumference for enhanced heat management by way of extreme ventilation. The internal IFF marker panel makes marrying up quicker and more convenient while the water repellent fabric assists in shedding water as opposed to your current filthy cotton bush hat.

– Light weight Multicam 70 Denier DWR Ripstop Nylon
– Barrel lock tensioner
– “Jute” Paracord (gutted) Loops for addition of local vegetation
– Loop Velcro on top of hat for IR IFF patch
– Warp Knit (like pile Velcro but nicer) on inner rear of hat for the attachment of neck flap
– Orange internal marker panel for marry up procedures
– Fleece sweat band on the inner front ring for additional comfort and moisture wicking
– Removable gutted Paracord Lanyard / neck strap.
All Temperate and Torrid Boonies come combined with a small coyote padded pouch.

This is an incredible hat. 5 stars is not enough. For me I’d rate these to be 7 out of 5. I have 4 in different colours. I’ve met people who love these hats and swears by them.. I have also gotten praise from people on the streets and on the tracks on how good it looks.
I like the ventilated top of this boonie. When the cold breeze blows, you would feel it go inside your hat. On really hot and humid days, the top acts as a radiator and wicks away your sweat and keeps the top of your head cool. The hat’s mass is so light that it does not store heat. Use the chin strap if the wind is too strong. The sweat band around your head is just right. Anything more you’d need a towel. If you feel it’s too wet just wring it. no biggie. I’m on the road 5 days a week, and i always keep a spare in the car just in case i leave my main one at home or at the office.

I hate giving bad or negative reviews but this hat really disappointed me.
First the good stuff, it looks good, is compact ad has some nice features, like the orange indicator panel inside, the drawstring tightener at the back to keep it on your dome is great. Shipping was fast and secure so no problems with this at all. FYI I brought the coyote colour which really has veteran appeal.
Okay so what's wrong? It's just too hot, I was sweating within minutes, the swear band is a moisture capturer and within minutes I had sweat running down my face and into my eyes and onto my sunnies. My head was literally boiling and this after just a few minutes of brisk walking. First walk was in very hot weather and the next day, much cooler but with little improvement in comfort.
Secondly, the rim , despite lots of stitching, has no rigidity so walking into even a mild breeze has the rim blowing up, leaving my face unprotected from the sun.
I have worn boonies or bush hats (as we call them in the South African army) since 1978, and they are far more comfortable made of poly cotton or 100% cotton. This boonie is made of some sort of synthetis fabric, possibly nylon but there is no wicking of moisture and cooling the head, despite the mesh insert. I am a sweater by nature when exercising, but this hat is unfortunately a very poor performer against the other boonies I own. For me, it's just not fit for purpose
